Lesson Description: You are going to design a flyer and link it back to this site with a QR code. The video will show you how to do this. Be sure to look at the rubric for guidance.
Lesson Objectives & Instructional Outcomes
Lesson Objectives:
  1. Students will learn how QR codes function and how to generate one.
  2. Students will design a digital advertisement using Canva.
  3. Students will ensure QR code functionality through proper URL formatting.
  4. Students will apply digital tools like Remove.bg for enhanced visual presentation.
  5. Students will demonstrate proper file saving, naming, and submission techniques using Microsoft Word.
Instructional Outcomes:
  1. Students will be able to generate a functioning QR code that links to a specific website.
  2. Students will design a visually appealing and relevant advertisement.
  3. Students will correct URL formatting issues when generating a QR code.
  4. Students will successfully remove backgrounds from images and incorporate them into their ad.
  5. Students will submit their completed ad as a Word document with correct formatting and naming conventions.
Aim & Essential Questions
Aim: How can we use QR codes and digital design tools to create an effective advertisement for a website?

Essential Questions:
  1. What is a QR code and how does it work?
  2. What elements make a digital advertisement visually effective?
  3. Why is URL formatting important when generating QR codes?
  4. How do we use Canva and Remove.bg to enhance ad design?
  5. What are best practices for saving and submitting digital assignments?

Vocabulary
  1. QR Code – A type of matrix barcode that can be scanned to open a URL or display information.
  2. Canva – A graphic design platform used to create visual content such as flyers and social media posts.
  3. URL – Uniform Resource Locator; the web address used to access a site.
  4. HTTP – HyperText Transfer Protocol; must be included at the beginning of some URLs for them to work properly in QR codes.
  5. Remove.bg – A website that removes the background from images for easier design integration.
  6. Advertisement – A public promotion of a product, service, or website.
  7. Design Elements – Visual components like images, text, and color that contribute to an ad’s effectiveness.
  8. Snipping Tool – A Windows tool used to take screenshots.
  9. Layers – Stacked elements in a design that allow for complexity and customization.
  10. File Naming Convention – The system used to name files clearly for identification and retrieval.
Questions For Instructional Time
  1. Why does a QR code need to start with “http://” or “https://” in the URL?
  2. How does using a tool like Remove.bg enhance your advertisement design?
  3. What are some common design mistakes that make an ad look unprofessional?
  4. How can you test if your QR code is functioning before submission?
  5. Why is it important to name and save your files correctly when submitting assignments?

Do Now: 

​Take out your devices and visit Canva.com. Explore the flyer templates and find one that you think could be used to advertise a website. What makes a good flyer stand out to you? Write down three design elements that make it effective.
Step 1: Watch entire video. It reteaches how to remove backgrounds and layer graphics using the website remove.bg. The video also teaches you how to create a QR Code on THIS WEBSITE.

Step 2: After you watch the video, go to Canva.com and design a print advertisement for http://businesseducationny.com that has a QR Code that links back to http://businesseducationny.com. 

Step 3: Use THIS WEBSITE to create your QR Code. Use Remove.BG to remove backgrounds of images to create layers of graphics.

Step 4: Follow the steps in the video to send me your work.
DO NOT SHARE THE DOCUMENT TO ME VIA CANVA!!!!!!!

You will get full credit if you:

- Create a unique flyer that looks nice and shows that you took time to construct it (do more than just plugging in to a template).
- Create a QR Code that successfully links back to http://businesseducationny.com.
